31 Days of Enjoying the Everyday Life: A Job Well Done

I am a list person. Partly from necessity because I can be forgetful and partly because I just like them. I have all sorts of different notepads and sticky notes paired with my assortment of color pens. I just love a good color-coordinated list.

A sample of items on my list for today included: do laundry, clean the kitchen, grade papers, prepare lessons, baseball practice, and write. I am happy to say those things were accomplished today, and today I am enjoying a job well done.

Colossians 3:23 is one of my favorite verses. “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (ESV). Whatever you do. Sometimes we can forget that whatever means literally whatever you are doing. Bringing glory to the Lord is not just for those with a big stage or a large “platform.” We can exhibit His goodness in all of our actions–large and small.

John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (ESV). Whoever believes in Jesus will be saved. Whoever could be standing right next to us and our little action could be what propels them toward Jesus.

If we truly work as we are working for the Lord and not for men, a simple job well done can have an eternal impact.

  1. Oh, how I can relate to your love of color-coded lists! I retired from 35 years of teaching in June and love retirement…but I’m still writing lists and working heartily for the Lord in whatever I do.
