Five Minute Friday: Blessing

Five Minute Friday instructions: Write for five minutes on the word of the week. This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation. Just write.

In the hurriedness and overscheduling of everyday life, it is so easy to overlook the blessings that are right in front of us. I know too many times I feel frustrated and irritated and feel like everything is going badly, when nothing could be further from the truth.

We are blessed.

I just began reading the book Only Love Today by Rachel Macy Stafford last night. Besides “Only Love Today” another mantra she uses to help her focus on the good and positive is “Look for flowers and not weeds.” This something I really needed to hear. I had gotten so busy looking at and stressing over all the weeds, that I forgot to look for the flowers.

So today, and every day, I want to start looking for the blessings first. Yes, there are troubles. Yes, things will not be perfect. Yes, there will be many weeds. However, by focusing on the blessings first and throughout the day it will be so easy to see what God has done.

We are blessed.
