Five Minute Friday instructions: Write for five minutes on the word of the week. This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation. Just write.
I want to play. Do you remember when you were a child and you got to go play? When I was little, it was way before technology was a constant presence in everyone’s hand. “Go play!” meant going outside, riding bikes, running between mine and my neighbors’ houses, exploring the woods, and playing in the creek. Play equaled freedom.
As a grown-up, I think I have almost forgotten how to play. Oh, I am a big kid at heart. I love to play games, and in our family we can turn anything into a competition. We have many games of front yard football and driveway basketball. So, I still love to play, but the freedom of it escapes me. While playing, I still feel the to-do list looming, and I feel like I should be doing something on the list instead. But I want play to equal freedom again. So I am going to try to throw off the to-do list when I play, which will be hard because I really love my lists! But the joy of playtime will be worth it!
