Five Minute Friday: Simplify

Five Minute Friday instructions: Write for five minutes on the word of the week. This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation. Just write.

Oh, that word brings about visions of clutter-free counters, pristine closets, organized shelves and, for some reason, sheer white curtains blowing in the beach breeze. (Am I only going to be able to be organized if I live at the beach? I am willing to explore that theory.) Not to mention an organized calendar –an overall organized life. I have been determined to simplify for a while now. With a family of five, we have accumulated a bunch of stuff. I have made a couple of preliminary purges, but sometimes it seems that the stuff just multiplies on its own! Sports stuff, school stuff, clothes, toys. (I won’t mention my own giant piles of books that decorate my bedroom.) Why do we need so much stuff? We don’t. And it is time to make some serious cuts. I think clearing the clutter will help me get on track to my dream of the pristine closets and shelves and, of course, my favorite dream being organized and efficient in day-to-day tasks.

  1. Ahhh yes! The “purge.” Truly, the best part of being a military family is that we purge constantly! Every couple of years and often in between b/c everything you keep has to be packed and then UNpacked. Really makes you evaluate what you keep! Thoroughly enjoyed this post! Good luck to you on your purge!

  2. I am in the midst of simplifying. I am doing the minimalism game where you get rid of the number of items for each day. At the end of the month, if I do it, I will have rid my home of over 400 items!!!
